So here's another thing that annoys me in sci-fi. A while back, sci-fi writers decided that the future should be all non-sexist. One way to achieve this was to use gender-equal forms of address. I've no idea when or where this started, but I first saw it in Star Trek II, where Kirk referred to the female Saavik as "Mister Saavik". Since then Trek pretty much routinely address female officers as Sir, Mister, etc. Although they don't go as far as calling them He or anything. Well this is a good thing, right? And yes, in a way it is. But over time I've noticed that the way of being "gender equal" adopted by Star Trek - and I've noticed it in s

So here's another thing that bothers me in science fiction. Your mile long spaceship comes hoving into view. Mile long spaceships are silly, but that's a different rant. Here it comes. It flies past, slowly, so big and impressive. And then it goes past, and we see something like this... https://images2.imgbox.com/89/fb/foGv2jyC_o.png See the problem here? That ship has, at least, three different sizes of engines on it. Why? What would possess any self-respecting engine designer to do this!!! First, what is the point? One can imagine that the two different sizes represent whole different types of engine. For example, one might see one eng

Hi there, nice to see you here
hey, just so you know that your star-ships have caught the eyes of several people over on the ToughSF discord group. I figured it was a good idea to toss you a link, so you could participate in the discussion too. discord.gg/zDrHfnY

Thank you very much for the review. I do agree that -like most of my stories- it's more of a nightmare than a dream. But, I do think in Heather's defense it is the kind of thing a "moral" person would do. It would be hard to sit back and let people fail of you can stop it. The story is written such that I wanted some people to understand Adam better and some people to understand Heather better.

A curiosity, I did not know non-premium members could give reviews. I know I was not allowed to when I was not premium at least.
I'm something of a moral relativist myself, and the idea of imposing my own moral views on other people really doesn't sit well with me. I lost a lot of sympathy for Heather after she "re-educated" the first guy, and the rest when she talked to Adam about it later. It was rather telling that in that conversation she simply had no answer to what he was saying and just retreated in anger instead.

As for reviews... I don't know a lot about how DA works, so I don't really know. I just saw the button there and clicked it...
